The band was created by guitarist Claudio Molina and singer Paula Vilches in 2001. Originally it was called "Deumadenun" (it means justice in Mapudungún, native language of the Mapuche people who live in southern Chile) but after a few years they changed the name to Denun.
The duo recorded an acoustic demo with two songs that year, but was not for sale because it was made to test the sound of the band at the studio.
In 2002, with full line-up, they started to have live performances, getting a small but enthusiastic group of fans. In every show the band had a very good response from the audience.
In February 2004 they decided to enter a studio to record their sound in a demo called simply "Denun", which would help to continue the dissemination of their music. Then they had live shows to promote this material.
In October 2005 the band recorded their first album called "Toluken" with 11 tracks, which got very good reviews and well received by the audience. The band played live really often this year.
In February 2006, they made a deal with the Belgian Label "Nothingness Records", which distributed their music in Europe. Today "Consouling Sounds", also from Belgium, is distributing Denun´s demo.
That same year the song "Asterión" was included in the first Chilean metal compilation edited by Dark Metal Forum: "From The Land That God Forgot"
The year 2007 the group was selected and was a semifinalist in the "Yamaha" Band Festival
In 2008 the band was selected in the competition "El no de las Niñas" where it competed with other 9 bands. Denun was the winner by the people´s vote.
In February the song "Desolación Austral" is included in the compilation of Chilean metal "Bandas Nacionales I" created by Bandas Nacionales Website.
Denun recorded their first official music video clip between June and July with Abysmo Producciones, who have made music videos for bands like Lacrimosa and Vader, among others, the chosen song was "Distant Memories".
