In 1985 I wrote 3 lyrics for a band that never actually played together, because we had a big fight and never met again. The band was called Massacra and the "songs" were Erupted Evil, Mass Murderer and Necro Schizma. The influences were clear: Venom, Hellhammer, Bathory, Celtic Frost and Sodom.
For more than 3 years nothing happened with this blasphemous poetry, until in 1989 4 guys decided to form a band. The first two songs for this band were Erupted Evil and Mass Murderer and the band was baptised with the moniker of Necro Schizma. Line up: Cronald (vocals), Barney (drums) and Bert and Pulle (both on guitars). For a short time we also had a bass player but due to musical and other differences he was kicked out.
Because we couldn't find a place to rehearse Bert and I used to compose songs at his parents house. He played the riffs and I added lyrics to it. In this way the music for Erupted and Mass Murderer was written, and the intro Doom of the Necroslaughter was added to Erupted Evil. The next songs to appear were Slaughtered Victim, Morbid Death and Bestial Lust. We also decided to do Hellhammer's Triumph of Death.
Then we got an offer to do a gig in a youth centre in our hometown Zwolle. Luckily we got the opportunity to use the rehearsal room of Dead Head some weeks before this gig. This was the first time the whole band played together! But it turned out rather well and we were ready to spread our message of doom. A few weeks later we did the gig and it had one hell of an impact: Inverted crosses with burning candles stood on both sides of the stage and the audience witnessed a colossal, doom-laden-sound with extremely distorted guitars and vocals. A registration of this gig was send to fanzines and some tape traders and led to astonishing reactions.
In September 1989 we recorded our demo tape Erupted Evil, as we still didn't have a place to rehearse this recording was only the fourth time we played together. We decided to record Doom of the Necroslaughter/ Erupted Evil, Bestial Lust and Crucified Carcass (a new song) on side A and Mass Murderer and the brilliant Triumph of Death on side B. The songs were recorded in about 3 hours and mixed in 1 hour. Costs about $ 100!! Because of this lack of time the lyrics of Mass Murderer on the demo tape are not exactly the correct ones! I had forgotten some lines and there was no time left to do the song again.
The front cover of the demo was copied from the backside of the Angel Witch debut album. Erupted Evil was received very well, the tape led to rave reviews in a lot of fanzines, and sold remarkably well (especially in Germany, Greece, Portugal and also in The Netherlands). Of course there were also less positive reactions from people who disliked the lack of speed! Distributing copies of the tape meant a lot of work for Pulle and me, as we used to copy the music at our homes.
As spokesman of the band I also had a lot of work to do with correspondence from fans and zines from all over the world. Finally we got a place where we could rehearse, but fuck it: on Sunday morning. That meant: getting on the train at 8.50 a.m. and then walk to the rehearsal room, while the streets were crowded with people going to church and staring at us before continuing their way. Who said the inquisition was extinct?! But of course it was a great source of inspiration for our brand of doom.
At the end of the year Barney decided to quit, he was replaced by Harry. About two months later Barney wanted to return, and Harry was friendly asked to do something else on his Sunday morning. Now having a place to practice worked out very well and new songs were written that in my opinion are so much better than the old ones. The new songs were Prenatal Autopsy and Necrocarnation. Prenatal was about a psychopath who was convinced with the fact that he would be killed by a child not yet born, so he had to kill pregnant women. Necrocarnation is about a witch who is slaughtered by the inquisition and her ancestor takes revenge on those of the inquisitors. Unfortunately I cannot remember the lyrics anymore!
Those two songs were meant to be on the second demotape that never saw the light of day (or the dark of night). In august 1990 we played a gig in Emmeloord as support act of Asphyx (Theo, † R.I.P.), which turned out to be our last gig. We were ready to record the second demo, but before that found place I quit and that meant the end of the band. The reason I quit was a lack of time and also the fact that the friendship between me and the rest of the band got less. A pirate demo tape was released (by whom?) with Prenatal Autopsy, Necrocarnation and a cover of Manowar's Pleasure Slave. Too bad neither of the band members has got a copy of it.
In 1993 I decided to restart Necro Schizma, with me as the only original member, the other members were from Beyond Belief. In the underground this led to a lot of rumours about a record deal, but in reality I only did some interviews with fanzines and the band rehearsed a few times. It didn't work out very well so I called it a day. Until now, eight years later, nothing happ
