После первого альбома "Fight to Survive" группе White Lion необходимо было сделать второй шаг на пути к признанию и успеху, закрепив достижения двухгодичной давности. И музыканты сделали это, добившись популярности благодаря удачно подобранному синглу "When the Children Cry", достигшему третьей строчки Биллбордовских чартов.
Выбор был очевиден: либо продолжать ранее начатое, либо измениться, а можно даже сказать, подстроиться под музыкальные предпочтения того периода в рок-музыке. Группа выбрала второй вариант. Не будем сейчас говорить о том, как этот выбор повлиял на дальнейшую судьбу White Lion. Самое главное в том, что коллектив узнали и полюбили многие. Появились новые фэны, турне и контракты. Всё было бы прекрасно, но это был последний успех группы в 80-х. Говоря о закате White Lion, стоит упомянуть композиции на "Pride", изменившие звук команды кардинально: "All You Need Is Rock N Roll", "Sweet Little Loving" и "Wait". Казалось бы, что страшного, если разбавить этим песнями альбом? Но следущая пластинка "Big Game" будет буквально забита такими "шедеврами". Тем не менее, в целом "Pride" очень даже порадовал сильными треками: "Hungry", "Lonely Nights", "Lady of the Valley", "Tell Me", ну и конечно же, "When the Children Cry". Правда, исчезли куда-то сопровождавшие когда-то вокал Майка Трэмпа клавишные. Почти испарилась меланхолия. Разбавленный "Pride" на вкус, как слабоалкогольный коктейль. Эффект есть, но быстро проходит. Рекомендовано фэнам, но в строго ограниченной дозировке. И всё же, этим альбомом можно наслаждаться. Ведь по крайней мере, это не "Mane Attraction". |

Участников ансамбля Белый Лев всегда отличал более тонкий вкус, чем остальных парней в лосинах, например, Ratt или Poison и высочайшие композиторские способности. Особенно это проявилось при записи альбома "Pride", пожалуй, лучшего в дискографии группы. С первых же аккордов дебютной композиции "Hungry", замечательного в меру тяжелого боевика с виртуозным гитарным соло, погружаешься в волшебный мир музыки White Lion. Каждую песню из "Pride" отличает замечательная неповтормая мелодия, будь то главный хит группы "Wait, Lady Of The Valley" с замечательным риффингом и сменой темпа, просто красивые "Lonely Nights" и "Tell Me" или заверщающая альбом супербаллада "When The Children Cry". Не удался "Львам" только гимн "All You Need Is Rock' n' Roll", но это лишь небольшой недостаток при огромном количестве достоинств альбома. Качественный AOR, который приятно послушать и двадцать лет спустя. |

В 1987 году вышло множество хороших альбомов. Лучшим же альбомом в глэм-метале того года считаю «Pride» White Lion, который стал наиболее яркой и свежей работой группы, и принес ей известность. Качество записи значительно улучшилось, гораздо профессиональнее стал вокал. Главная фишка у группы - виртуозная гитарная игра Вито Братты, который полностью раскрыл здесь свой талант. На высоте и остальные музыканты. Касательно собственно музыки - она стала чуть менее тяжелой, но еще более яркой и красивой. Прекрасные песни «Hungry» (1), «Lonely Nights» (2), «Lady of the Valley» (5), «Wait» (6), «All Join our Hands» (9) и «When the Children Cry» (10) навсегда останутся классикой и примером того, каким должна быть мелодичная, и в то же время жесткая рок-музыка. На их фоне остальные композиции смотрятся не так ярко, хотя сами по себе они хороши по всем статьям. Рецензия получилась короткой, поскольку больше добавить по этому альбому нечего. Идеал и образец глэм-метала, и просто великолепный альбом из далеких 80-х. 10 баллов, как лучшему релизу в дискографии White Lion. |
