 Второй альбом немецких прогрессив-пауэр металлистов. Это несколько не то, что я мог ждать, потому как предыдущий дебютный диск «Roots Of Hate» задал довольно-таки внушительные обороты и сразу же воздвиг для группы определённо стабильный и высокий статус. Здесь же, кажется, ребята расслабились и решили не создавать ничего сверх оригинального или же трогающего душу. Хотя отрицать то, что профессионализм музыкантов вырос, я не могу. Также в некоторой степени к развитию нужно отнести более усложнённую структуру песен, что позволяет уже лёгко заявлять о группе как об одном из коллективов играющих техничный прогрессив металл. Записан диск более чем отлично, но вот вокальные партии вызывают нарекание. Вокалист Барнетт почти полностью отказался от хриплого вокала, дав волю чистому пению. Замечу, что у него это отлично получается, но как таковой радости не вызывает. По-моему, его чистый войс не слишком примечательный и харизматичный, по сравнению с другими грандами этого жанра (взять хотя бы голосистого Джефа Тэйта из Quensryche, или того же блистательного Джеймас ЛяБри из Dream Theater, которым на данном альбоме Барнетт и в подмётки не годится). В основном на диске преобладает средний темп в композициях. Даже можно сказать неторопливый, что несколько меня раздражает, поскольку в большей половине таких «ленивых» боевиков нет ни интересной мелодии, ни качового драйва. Из самых лучших песен я бы выделил заглавную, угрюмую композицию «Walls Of Never», где также удачно вводятся элементы хоровых распевов наподобие таких команд как Era или Enigma, очень мелодичную и с цепляющим припевом «Somebody Out There». И особенно выделяются два скоростных и агрессивных боевика – «Toxical Rose» и «Lust Is A Killer». Эти два номера наиболее точно показывают грубую натуру команды, и они наилучше вписались бы в предыдущий шедевр «Roots Of Hate». По своей силе и мощи они как раз и соотносятся с предыдущими гениальными тяжеляками «In The Deep Of The Night» и «When Thunder Roars». В итоге, у нас получается только четыре потенциальные удачи, способные держать эстафету посреди поля битвы с другими бандами. Остальной материал честно сказать меня серьёзно разочаровал. В нём наиболее точно можно увидеть, что будет, если прогрессивная сторона захватит хэви металлическую, сделав её бездушной, холодной и расчётливой. В общем-то, в проге нельзя обойтись без некоторого процента скуки и нудности, всё же некоторые бэнды умудряются как-то этого избежать. У Rough Silk этого не получилось и поэтому мы и имеем просто нормальную и грамотную работу, в целом. Если же брать в расчёт моё субъективное мнение, то альбом «Walls Of Never» - достаточно посредственная работа, резко проигрывающая «Roots Of Hate». Хотя, думаю, что фэны не будут разочарованы. |
